Bela Fleck meets The Art Ensemble of Chicago. From jazz and avant-garde via deconstructed bluegrass, the trio weaves inventive improvisations amongst diverse sounds. They have been featured on BBC Radio 3 UK, Dutch TV station VPRO, WUTC Radio (Chattanooga, US), Radio Jazz Kultura (Poland) and their debut album, Incidents, was released in February 2021. They have performed in the UK, France, Croatia, the Netherlands and across the US

International trio featuring Susan Mayo - cello, Paul Elwood - banjo and Sue McKenzie -saxophones (USA/ France/Scotland). Bela Fleck meets The Art Ensemble of Chicago. From jazz and avant-garde via deconstructed bluegrass, the trio weaves inventive improvisations amongst diverse sounds. They have been featured on BBC Radio 3 "Freeness" and their debut album, Incidents, was released in February 2021.
Performances include Le Jam / Le Corbusier (Marseille, France), Katowice JazzArt Festival (Poland), Broadcast (Glasgow, Scotland), WUTC Radio and Cadek Hall (Chattanooga, US), Kontesa Jazz Club (Zagreb, Croatia) and Riney Fine Arts Center (Wichita, US).
Susan Mayo (cello) is active not only in the classical world, playing with the Wichita Symphony, but can also be seen with the SWitchgrass Quartet, one of the only improvising string quartets in town and Poke Salad Orchestra, a string trio firmly rooted in American traditions. She also works with the 21 Century Projects collective, a creative collaborative of musicians, visual artists, and dancers and has collaborated on a variety of projects writing works for the Switchgrass Quartet and was recently awarded a Tallgrass Artist Residence.
Paul Elwood (banjo) is active in the realms of experimental, bluegrass, and jazz. In 2015 he played on a premiere by experimental music pioneer Alvin Lucier and has collaborated with guitarist Jean-Marc Montera, legendary composer Christian Wolff, percussionist Famoudou Don Moye, guitarist Eugene Chadbourne, cellist Hank Roberts, French saxophonist Raphaël Imbert, and the Callithumpian Consort of the New England Conservatory, Zeitgeist, bluegrass legend John Hartford, and pipa player Min Xiao-Fen, among many others.
Sue McKenzie (saxophone) performs internationally with trio Multifarious as well as Salsa Celtica, Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and Hot Dub Time Machine. She is a Yanagisawa / D’Addario Woodwinds Artist who has played support for Esbjörn Svensson Trio and Bill Frisell, and has recorded on the Delphian and Linn labels. Sue was guest artist at the RADD Jazz Series, University of Wisconsin River Falls, USA (2019) and other recent gigs include the 606 Club / Jazz Cafe (London) and West Holts Stage (Glastonbury). Sue’s "Give it a go!” jazz workshops for children have been presented at GIOfest, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival and EFG London Jazz Festival.
